General

What is Darkwood?

Darkwood is a game about survival, exploration and fear, set in mysterious woods somewhere in the territory of the Soviet Bloc. It is a top-down, free-roam, surreal horror experience with a randomized world, taking cues from classic games, where oftentimes you had to figure things out for yourself. By blending RPG, roguelike and adventure elements together with a challenging difficulty, Darkwood aims to please players craving for a deep and rewarding experience.

How scary is Darkwood?

We're aiming for an eerie, creepy atmosphere and overall weirdness, with the occasional dark humour. We want to enter your subconciousness and bring out your own fears, force you to think about the events or characters of Darkwood and digest them in your brain long after you've stopped playing, rather than focusing on in-your-face jump scares (although you can still expect some of these).

When will I be able to play Darkwood?

You can play the alpha version of Darkwood right now! The Steam store page has more info!

The DRM-free version will be available once Darkwood leaves Early Access. Currently there is no final release date.

OR you can play the free version here!

What's the deal with Early Access?

Early Access on Steam lets you play a game in an unfinished state. You can read up on why we decided to release Darkwood in alpha stage here.

When is the final version of Darkwood arriving?

On the 17th of August, 2017!

On what platforms will Darkwood be available on?

PC, Mac and Linux. No plans for console versions at the moment, maybe in the future. Definitely no mobile version.

What are the system requirements for Darkwood?

You can see the up-to-date requirement list on the Steam store page.

What languages does Darkwood support?

Currently: English and Polish. There MIGHT be support for additional languages after the final release, although we can't promise anything.

Can I monetize videos of me playing Darkwood?

Of course you can!

Indiegogo / crowdfunding

I'm a backer. When will my Indiegogo awards arrive?

We have already sent you the Steam code for the alpha version of Darkwood! It will update itself to the final version automatically when the time comes.

Once Most of the other rewards will be magically teleported to you or implemented when the game leaves Early Access, although we will be in touch with you in regard to some of the special rewards (like getting your name in the game etc.).

If you haven't received any mails from us, it's possible we're getting caught in your spam filter. If that's the case, send us a line at indiegogo (at) acidwizardstudio.com!

I'm not a backer, but I would like to get some of the Indiegogo perks!

Sorry, but currently there is no way to buy those. We will investigate ways to offer merchandise after the release!

Other

Is there a story, or is Darkwood solely survival based?

Yup! The story and lore is very rich, actually.

OMG what music did you use in the game / trailers?

We do all of the audio stuff ourselves. More specifically, Artur is responsible for that, as well as the whole art "department".

Does Darkwood support multiplayer?

Nope. We decided to focus solely on a single player experience.

What about controller support?

Yes! Darkwood supports gamepads and has a special control scheme for them.

Will there be any mod tools?

Nope :(

Are you insane?

Most probably.

What were your inspirations?

The works of David Lynch, Strugacki brothers, Stanisław Lem. Games like Fallout, Dark Souls, Project Zomboid, Teleglitch. Slavic folklore. And, well, life.
